Bedbugs – What are they? 
Bed bugs are small-brownish insects that feed on human blood. They most active at night when people are sleeping. They are big enough to be easily seen, but hide in mattresses, box springs, bedding, cracks in furniture, floors, or walls. When bed bugs feed, they swell and become bright red. They can live for several months to over a year without feeding. They don’t jump or fly, and they crawl and move about the same speed as an ant.
Bed Bugs Bite!
Bed bug bites will bite and suck on any areas of exposed skin while you are sleeping. The bite itself is painless and is not noticed. Small, flat, or raised bumps on the skin are the most common sign; redness, swelling, and itching may occur. If scratched, the bite areas can become infected. A peculiarity of bed bug bites is the tendency to find several bites lined up in a row. Infectious-disease specialists refer to this as the “breakfast, lunch, and dinner” sign, signifying the sequential feeding that occurs from site to site.
Signs you have them:
- Blood stains on your sheets or pillowcases
- Dark or rusty spots of bedbug excrement on sheets and mattresses, bed clothes, and walls
- Bedbug fecal spots, egg shells, or shed skins in areas where bedbugs hide
- An offensive, musty odor from the bugs’ scent glands
Bottom Line:
Bed bugs are nasty and should not be taken lightly. If you see signs of having bedbugs in your home, we recommend that you call us right away because of the fact that they can cause harm to human health, as well as, the fact that they will continue to reproduce through laying eggs.
